The Government of the state of Sao Paulo detailed in a statement that 47 of the people who died due to landslides and floods correspond to the municipality of Sao Sebastiao and one more to Ubatuba, on the north coast of the town.

Rescuers work this Wednesday in the search for around 40 people who remain missing, especially in the mountain of mud formed by the landslides in the Barra do Sahy resort.

The state government explained that after three days, the rescuers managed to rescue three children alive who remained in the mud, while 28 people remain hospitalized, including six infants.

The Brazilian Navy, in turn, set up a mobile port in the area for the departure of people who cannot leave the resorts due to damage to roads in the region, located 190 kilometers northeast of the city of Sao Paulo.

The area of ​​the landslides is one of the busiest in terms of tourism in the state of Sao Paulo, where last weekend it rained twice as much as expected for all of February in just 24 hours, one of the highest records in Brazil.

The National Center for Monitoring and Alerts of Natural Disasters (Cemaden) has warned the Sao Paulo Civil Defense about the possibility of a major meteorological event.

The director of Cemaden, Osvaldo Moraes, even warned in advance of what happened through the media about the need to relocate people who live in the affected risk areas, but the local alert system was not activated according to the indication.
