The Buenos Aires consumer price index registered an increase of 5.8% in December, the same as the previous month, and closed the year with accumulated inflation of 93.4%.as reported this afternoon by the General Directorate of Statistics and Censuses (DGEyC) of the City.
In December, the variation in the IPCBA was mainly due to increases in the Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels divisions (6.3%), Restaurants and hotels (9%), Food and non-alcoholic beverages (7%), Health (6.3%) and Home equipment and maintenance (6.7%), which together explained 67.6% of the increase in the General Level.
According to the IPCBA report, the division with the highest increase was Restaurants and hotels with a 9% increase, due to the rise in the prices of food prepared in restaurants, bars and food houses, together with the increases in Hotel accommodation service rates for tourist reasons.
However, the division with the highest incidence in the general index was housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels with a rise of 6.3%, contributing with
1.10 percentage points (pp) to the monthly variation of the IPCBA, mainly impacted by the increases in the values of common housing expenses and rents. There were also notable increases in the prices of home repair services, but to a lesser extent.
Meanwhile, restaurants and hotels followed in percentage incidence with an increase of 9%, affecting 0.98 pp, and increases in food and non-alcoholic beverages with an increase of 7% and an incidence of 0.83 pp Within the division , the main impulses came from Bread and cereals (5.0%), Milk, dairy products and eggs (4.2%) and Vegetables, tubers and legumes (6.8%).
Likewise, the Health category, which increased by 6.3% and had an impact of 0.54 pp, due to increases in prepaid medicine quotas4 and, to a lesser extent, adjustments in the values of medicines; and household equipment and maintenance registered a rise of 6.7%, with an incidence of 0.43 pp, due to the impact of the increases in the remuneration of domestic service personnel. Next in importance were increases in the values of large household appliances and home appliances.
