DeepL Write is a new feature of the translation tool that improves texts. Unlike complete text generators such as ChatGPT, the AI writing assistant does not create its own texts, but takes sentences, paragraphs or entire articles entered by users and makes them better. Where “better” is of course at least partially at the discretion of the AI. The situation is different with grammar and spelling: there are clear rules that DeepL Write can apply.

Of course, DeepL Write can be used for theses or seminar papers, just as other text generators may change the teaching.
According to a press release, the texts become “more understandable, more fluid, more pointed or more lively”. The style depends on the occasion. However, the original author retains the domiciliary rights, he decides with each new formulation whether he wants to adopt it or not.

Unfortunately, our active understanding of language isn’t always as strong and we have a hard time finding the right words in a foreign language, or even in our native language,” explains DeepL CEO Dr. Yaroslav Kutylovsky. “This is where DeepL Write helps with artificial intelligence and shows how not only to write correctly, but how to write really well.” DeepL comes from Cologne and says it has sufficient resources to continue investing in research and ongoing operations thanks to a recent round of financing. The company is currently valued at $1 billion. DeepL Write is only available as a beta version so far, but will continue to be trained on an ongoing basis.
