MEXICO CITY (appro).- Morenista deputy Adela Ramos Juárez, member of the Education Commission, expressed her rejection of the new textbooks for the 2023-2024 school year.
The legislator’s position goes in the opposite direction to that of her bench, which together with that of the PT warned that it will defend the distribution of free textbooks from the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) and announced that assemblies will be organized to inform the citizenship of its content.
At a press conference in San Lázaro, Ramos Juárez asked the Federal Government to stop its distribution, until there are favorable conditions and the process is resolved legally.
“As a basic education teacher that I am, I disagree with the thoughtless position of our educational authorities and our government.
“Given the multiple voices of disagreement and teachers, parents, and society in general, as well as education experts, I join the position of not distributing the new textbooks this school year until there are favorable conditions” said the legislator.
He argued that these new textbooks not only contain spelling and grammatical errors, but also have dogmatic and philosophical intentions, which lead to political interest with exaggerated abuses, skewing the rights of children, since education must be fully developed. harmonious physical and mental faculties of children, for a productive life with critical, reflective and analytical thinking.
“Education must be secular, free and compulsory. It is a public requirement to review the new textbooks in their entirety and in depth, without simulations or omissions, much less crude justifications for errors, calling them areas of opportunity”, he asserted.
For this reason, Ramos Juárez reported that he requested an audit in order to clarify and make the expenses for the process of preparing the free textbooks and the profiles that produced each content clear and transparent.

“This Chamber of Deputies is fully empowered to carry out this task and demand that these textbooks adhere to the regulatory and pedagogical framework, in accordance with the provisions of article 73 of the Organic Law of the General Congress, which indicates that this Chamber it is empowered to dictate the laws aimed at conveniently distributing the exercise of the educational function and the corresponding economic contributions among the Federation, the entities and the municipalities,” he said.

In another press conference, the deputy Aleida Alavez Ruiz, vice coordinator of the Morena Parliamentary Group, maintained that the new free textbooks do not eliminate knowledge, as has been said of mathematics, but will simply be taught in a different way, with a focus comprehensive and more reflective for the daily life of children and adolescents.
He informed that assemblies will be held in the different districts in order to make the contents fully known, with which a new educational model called New Mexican School is specified, a different scheme from the one imposed in previous governments.
Meanwhile, the deputy Reginaldo Sandoval Flores of the PT assured that free textbooks should be distributed throughout the Republic, and reiterated their importance because they are on the path of deepening the Fourth Transformation.
