DeSantis distances himself from Trump's electoral conspiracies: "of course he lost"

MADRID, 7 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, one of the main candidates in the Republican Party primaries for the next presidential elections, has distanced himself from the theories put forward by his former ally Donald Trump in relation to the 2020 elections, ruling that “by Of course he lost”, contrary to what the New York tycoon has been defending for almost three years.

DeSantis has spoken this way in an interview with NBC News, in what are his most direct statements so far on this subject. Until now, the governor, promoted in his day by Trump, had limited himself to questioning the “theories” put forward by the former president and his allies.

“Whoever puts his hand on the Bible on January 20 is the winner,” said DeSantis, who despite the twist continues to maintain that the 2020 elections were not “perfect.” Just last week, Trump had to answer in court for the violent drift of his conspiracy theories, exemplified in the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Trump has spared no criticism in recent months of DeSantis, who ranks second but a long way behind in polls for Republican candidates for the White House. The former president’s spokesman, Steve Cheung, has indicated after the interview that the governor of Florida “should stop being the biggest cheerleader for Joe Biden.”

DeSantis has, however, avoided criticizing Trump for the various legal fronts he has open, suggesting that these cases “are not really about Donald Trump” and that the judicial system in the United States “is not fair”, since it would be at the service of partisan interests.
