DeSantis signs law that educates about the danger of communism within the US

MIAMI.- In line with his permanent ideological battle, Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida, on the 63rd anniversary of the Bay of Pigs invasion, signed bill SB 1264, which strengthens the state’s educational standards, establishing the teaching of the evils of communism and its danger within the United States.

“The reality is that not only is information about the evils of communism lost, but many institutions in our own country, many of these universities, try to rehabilitate it, try to whitewash communism. They argue that real communism has never been proven during all this time,” DeSantis said at the ceremony that took place in Hialeah Gardens, at the museum that pays tribute to the participants in the Bay of Pigs invasion from April 17 to 20. 1961.

“Years ago when I first became governor, I said that in the state of Florida we were going to tell the truth about communism. The truth will make us free. We are going to tell the whole truth about the unprecedented number of deaths in the 20th Century at the hands of communist tyranny, 100 million deaths caused by communist regimes, from China to the former Soviet Union and Cuba. “Those are facts,” said the president before signing his signature on the new law.

The new law adds the History of Communism in the US to the curriculum, as well as a review of tactics used by communist activists and movements here in the US throughout history. This will make education about communism much more comprehensive, DeSantis said.

The bill also calls for the newly created Institute for Freedom in the Americas at Miami-Dade College to partner with the Adam Smith Center for Economic Freedom at Florida International University. “The objective is to promote the importance of economic and individual freedoms as a means of advancing human progress,” he highlighted.

Additionally, the new rule authorizes the Florida Department of State and the Department of Education to provide a plan to the legislature later this year to create a museum here in Florida documenting the history of communism.

“I know firsthand the evils that communism brings and I am proud to support the governor in his decision to sign this law to guarantee that Florida continues to be the bastion of freedom,” said Manny Díaz, Commissioner of Education. from Florida.

SB 1264, which goes into effect July 1, 2024, prepares students to resist indoctrination about communism in colleges and universities.

In Florida, it was already required by law to provide 45 minutes of instruction on topics related to the history of communism. Currently educational standards address topics such as Mao Zedong and the Cultural Revolution, The Great Leap Forward, Joseph Stalin and the Stalinist regime, Fidel Castro and the tyrannical Cuban regime and Lenin and the Russian Revolution and Maduro and the Regime in Venezuela.
