The accumulation of fat in the liver can be caused by several factors, among them is a diet rich in fats, the use of medications, frequent intake of alcoholic beverages, untreated diabetes and uncontrolled cholesterol.
Fat in the liver causes inflammation and impairs the proper functioning of the body, and may develop into hepatic steatosis – when there is a disturbance it causes the impairment of part of the liver – or even cancer.
Nutritionist Patrícia Melo, who works in Brasília, lists foods that help prevent fat in the liver and can help in the detoxification process of the organ.
