Two days after the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, the authorities have again given new death figures – more than 11,700 people have now died in the disaster. In Turkey alone, 9,057 people died, said President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday in the Hatay earthquake region.

Almost 53,000 people were injured. More than 6,400 houses collapsed. 2,662 deaths were recently reported from Syria. The cover photo shows the extent of the destruction in the Turkish city of Iskenderun.
