The story of how Cillian Murphy could be Oppenheimer in a TV series

In 2014, the extinct television network WGN America premiered a series called Manhattan where the issue of the project with which the atomic bomb was developed was also discussed, this in the context of World War II.

That show had actor Daniel London in the role of J. Robert Oppenheimer. And although it only lasted a couple of seasons, the show met with good critical reception, but was not continued (unfair things in life, some will say).

The thing is that when the cast was just getting together, the production team had several actors in mind to play said theoretical physicist. And among those names, Cillian Murphy was listed as one of the options to play oppenheimer in the series.

“When we were looking for Oppenheimer, we went through a whole host of different ideas… Actually, there were some rock stars that we consideredtold Lyla Byock, a screenwriter for Manhattan, to Vanity Fair in a recent interview.

According to the screenwriter, the musicians they sought out to play J. Robert Oppenheimer were David Bowie (who was not available) and even Beck. And as actors, sounded the name of a then unknown Ebon Moss-Bachrach (who is now a star in The Bear).

Although Daniel London got the part, the writer of Manhattan mentions that Cillian Murphy also entered into his plans to stay in the role of Oppenheimer in the series. “One hundred percent, Cillian Murphy was on that list”, Byock told the aforementioned medium. Can you imagine that would have happened?
