The day after the stopwatch which saw Remco Evenepoel offer himself a first pink jersey, the Tour of Italy peloton heads south on Sunday, with a stage in line between Teramo and San Salvo.

After a first time trial in Abruzzo, the Giro heads for southern Italy on Sunday May 7, with a second stage contested on the shores of the Adriatic Sea. The lack of elevation gain – only 1400m over the 201km separating Teramo from San Salvo – suggests a quiet day for the peloton. The pink jersey therefore seems well hung on the shoulders of Remco Evenepoel.

Expected, the Belgian world champion disgusted the competition during the time trial of the first stage, notably relegating his main rival, Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma), to 43 seconds. On the other hand, the finish seems conducive to a massive sprint. Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segrafredo), Michael Matthews (Jayco-AlUla), Fernando Gaviria (Movistar) or even Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck) will have a card to play. Follow our live.
