Ada Lovelace brings DLSS 3 to laptops
Once again, it is the laptop market that is now a bigger one Selection of current Nvidia GPUs offers. While the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 models are already known from the desktop, Nvidia is also supplying the RTX 4050, RTX 4060 and RTX 4070 models for upcoming notebooks. As always, the graphics cards cannot go directly with them due to the significantly different system structure in mobile computers compared to their desktop namesakes.
The most important limitation here is of course the throttling of the maximum performance. The 4050, 4060 and 4070 models operate at 35 – 115 watts in the laptop configuration, while the RTX 4080 and 4090 can draw a maximum of 150 watts at their peak – third-party manufacturers can probably operate their cards with a slightly higher maximum power. Nvidia relies on GDDR6 for memory, with the desktop cards using the faster GDDR6x standard. The RTX 4050 is satisfied with 6 GB of VRAM, which increases to 16 GB up to the top card RTX 4090.

The new cards can then offer the greatest leap in performance when DLSS 3 is active. In a comparison between the RTX 3080 Ti laptop GPU and the newcomer RTX 4090, a two- to four-fold increase in relative performance should be possible, depending on the title. The biggest jump can therefore be achieved in Cyberpunk 2077 with the new “Ray Tracing: Overdrive mode” activated. However, as always, it is important to wait for independent performance tests to get a complete picture.
RTX 40 Series launches on Razer’s Blade 16 and Blade 18 laptops
The first laptops with RTX 40 cards will be available in February. Among other things, it can be expected that Razer will be one of the first suppliers with its Blade 16 and Blade 18 models.
