Get into your shell and face the evil
You have sanded Elden Ring, Demon’s Souls Remake, the three Dark Souls III or even Bloodborne and you still have craving for games of the genre ? There is of course Steelrising of Spiders and soon Lies of P but, in the meantime, you can discover Mortal Shell for free, an action RPG developed by Cold Symmetry and edited by Platstack.
In this Souls-like, you embody a character completely emaciated humanoid who finds himself sent to a dark, sticky, and ruined world. Only a few NPCs and engravings are there for give some context about what happened. A cryptic narration à la From Software, but which is very popular with fans of the genre, who like to discover the world and its history in an organic way. What makes Mortal Shell unique is that players can equip up to four different envelopes, each with its own characteristics. It’s up to the players to find them, and to use the one that suits them best for their style or situation.
Some bosses are very successful, others more conventional, but overall, Mortal Shell features an enjoyable combat system once mastered, a solid bestiary, a fairly interesting item-related system, a good challengeand a lifetime between 3 and 8 p.m.. On the other hand, we regretted in our test a lack of customization options, some disabling collision bugs, and a progression too compartmentalized. On the Epic Games Store, the game is free until tomorrow 5 p.m., and can be obtained with the Rottin Christ Pack that you just have to select in the “Additional Content” tab.
