Documentary Nova revives the massacre of the Hams group at an Israeli music festival

JERUSALN.- An Israeli film director screened in Jerusalem before around twenty international journalists a documentary about the bloody October 7 attack by Hamas against the techno music festival, Tribe of Nova, in which 350 participants died.

The film, titled Nova and which lasts 52 minutes, recalls the tragic experience of the 3,000 revelers who participated in that festival, held about five kilometers from the Gaza Strip, subject to a strict blockade by Israel since 2007.

That macro party turned into a massacre due to the attack of hundreds of militiamen from the Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas. “I wanted to explain the history of a party,” said the documentary’s director, Dan Peer.

He said he had worked day and night for the last two months to make this documentary through 212 videos, voice messages and images from surveillance cameras, which he obtained mainly thanks to the survivors of the attack.

The documentary

Dan Peer said that he did not want to show the bloodiest moments out of respect for the victims, but that does not prevent the documentary from being shocking. In the film, you see trivial moments such as a group of friends exchanging messages about what to wear to the party or young people dancing while eating sweets.

But also how the situation degenerated into hell. “I’m very afraid,” comments a young man when he records the first missiles launched from Gaza against Israel.

Then, the Hamas fighters appear, who claimed to want to kill thousands of the revelers, while some of them called their parents asking them: “why didn’t the army come to defend them.”

The documentary has been produced by the Kistina company and will be broadcast free of charge on all Israeli channels, something very unusual in Israel.

Some 20,000 people have died in Gaza since the start of the Israeli offensive, while 1,140 lost their lives in the Hamas attacks on October 7 in Israel that preceded the bombings, according to data from the respective authorities.
