Democrats in the US Congress want to publish partially blacked-out tax returns from former President Donald Trump on Friday. This was announced by the House Finance Committee on Tuesday. The records were expected to cover the period from 2015 to 2021, the Republican presidency and the campaign leading up to it.

There was no immediate statement from Trump. The committee, which will be controlled by the Democrats until the end of the year, had announced the publication, but pointed out that parts of the documents would first have to be blacked out because they are confidential.

The committee released its report on the filing last week and found that the IRS, contrary to regulations, failed to review Trump’s statements for three of the four years of his presidency.

The businessman had not self-published his tax records during the presidential campaign, contrary to standard US practice. He later failed in court in an attempt to prevent release to the committee. In the new legislative period next year, this will be controlled by the Republicans, like the entire House of Representatives. (Reuters)
