The president of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez, said yesterday that he asked Lionel Messi to come and play in the Copa Libertadores de América because it is the “only” he has yet to win in his career as a footballer, after being crowned world champion with Argentina.
“Messi showed what his impeccable career is and a future in which he will still be able to win more things. I asked Messi to come and play the Libertadores, because he is the only one who hasn’t won yet.”Domínguez explained about his dialogue with the star from Rosario at the Qatar award ceremony.
“In the Copa América and the Finalissima I was telling him, first one of three, then two of three and when it was time for Qatar it occurred to me to tell him about the Libertadores”revealed with a smile the controversial president of the South American Football Confederation.
The Paraguayan manager also winked at Ángel Di María to leave Europe and come to “play in South America”, although he has a current contract with Juventus of Italy.
Both Messi and Di María are the weaknesses of the Paraguayan leader, who in recent years has been very close to Argentine soccer and the president of the Argentine Soccer Association, Claudio Tapia.
