The first trailer for Evil Dead Rise has just been released and it is a so-called “Red-Band-Trailer”, so nothing for Home and School right away. No, here the director Lee Cronin has played with everything the fabric can hold and really tried to capture everything that makes Evil Dead one of the most influential horror franchises ever. Because of course there wouldn’t be a sequel worthy of Sam Raimi’s legacy if there wasn’t blood and other anatomical parts flying in every other frame. But one glance at the trailer is enough to understand that it is not something we need to worry about.

The story then? Well, maybe not the deepest, but of course it’s not because of the one we’ll be sitting on the bench in April, when the film premieres. Beth, played by Lily Sullivan, visits her older sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) in Los Angeles and soon becomes embroiled in an elaborate plan to unleash demons and thereby build Hell on Earth. Now it’s up to Beth to save humanity. Or the official description:

In the fifth Evil Dead film, a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped LA apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building. It gives rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.
