The city of Dornbirn has secured around 44,000 m2 of land directly adjacent to the Staufensee by exchanging several forest areas with FM Hämmerle Holding AG.

The areas are located between the Rappenlochbrücke and the Staufensee on the left bank and can be used for the further development of the local recreation area.

Use of hiking trails secured

“This exchange of land is a unique opportunity to sustainably develop the local recreation area around the Staufensee,” reports Mayor Dipl.-Vw. Andrea Kaufmann In return, the city exchanges forest areas in the “Käsera” area. The corresponding resolution was passed by the city council at its most recent meeting.

The exchange will ensure long-term use of the hiking trails and the Rappenlochsteig. A first step to improve the offer for hikers is already planned. In the lower section of the Karren/Staufen hiking trail, a new path is to be created that will lead hikers directly over a new section to the area where the Staufensee reservoir is located, at the new bridge and the rural bus stop.

New Rappenloch bridge to relieve hiking trail

The expected release of the new Rappenloch Bridge in June will significantly relieve the hiking trail around the Staufensee. The completion of the rehabilitation work at Staufensee and additional measures to control the torrent will take a few more months. With the new path, hikers are safely guided past this construction site.
