The heat wave that the entire country is going through, with extreme temperatures, triggered the consumption of energywhich marked Sunday, February 12, 2023, a new record of 25,734 megawatts (MW) at 4:15 p.m., surpassing the one reached on December 11, 2022, at 3:54 p.m. when demand reached 23,724 MWthe distributors reported.
The Wholesale Electricity Market Administration Company (CAMMESA), and the Association of Electricity Distributors of the Argentine Republic confirmed the data and issued a series of recommendations for users to use electrical appliances properlyand thus achieve an optimal and efficient provision, reducing the energy consumption.
The notice offers a series of recommendations for the proper use “at home and work” of electrical appliances so that the use of “generation, transportation and distribution” resources is more efficient and allows to face “exceptional situations” of consumptionas happened last Sunday, with special attention to the use of air conditioning equipment.
About these artifacts, recommend programming them at 24°C, and warn that “each extra degree represents 8% more consumption”, also recommends cleaning the filters every 3 months to avoid excessive consumption; keep doors and windows closed and turn them off when leaving the room. They also advise “painting the internal spaces of the house in light colors, which will require “less power to illuminate them”.
In the case of televisions, the companies recommend “do not keep them on unnecessarily”, since they use up more energy and reduce their useful life, and warn that they must be disconnected because “even when they are turned off, they continue on standby”, generating 15% of household energy consumption, the statement explains. Another important issue is “unplug the cell phone charger when charging is complete”, so as not to produce unnecessary energy consumption.
