ITurkey has meanwhile officially accepted Belgium’s aid to respond to the earthquakes that have claimed thousands of lives since Monday, in the form of sending an emergency medical team to set up a field hospital in a disaster area, announced Wednesday at the end of the morning the office of the Minister of Public Health Frank Vandenbroucke.


B-Fast, an interdepartmental emergency response structure, announced on Tuesday the dispatch of such a team. A reconnaissance team leaves at 2:00 p.m. from the military airport of Melsbroek to go there and identify the places for the establishment of the field hospital. This should be active next week, Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday.

Turkey activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism on Monday, and around 20 European countries quickly mobilized relief. These are mostly search and rescue teams, but also two emergency medical teams, to which the Belgian team will therefore be added.
