Who was Edwin Arrieta, the surgeon murdered by Daniel Sancho

The Thai authorities do not rule out the death penalty for Daniel Sancho for the murder of the Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta with whom he had a very close relationship. According to the police of the Asian country, the confessed murderer acted with premeditationas reflected in the images captured in an establishment where Rodolfo Sancho’s son was seen buying various items with which he carried out the crime.

While in Spain the family of Daniel Sancho is “totally dejected”, as confirmed by his spokesman Ramón Chippirrás, from the other side of the Atlantic, in Colombia, the pain is even greater. Carlos Zuleta, a close friend of Edwin Arrieta, spoke this Wednesday in ‘Espejo Público’ where has reacted publicly to the latest information coming from Koh Phangan where there is talk of capital punishment for the defendant.

“We have all been shocked too much. As doctors, the only thing we do is preserve life. How do I feel about what the police ask for the alleged murderer? Well, I don’t feel joy, ”Zuleta begins by saying. “I don’t think about the murderer, I think about his parents, I am the father of five children and I don’t want to put myself in that situation. Neither the death penalty nor anything else is going to bring our friend back, no one is going to bring back Darlin’s brother or his parents’ son,” he adds.

Carlos Zuleta, a friend of Edwin Arrieta for more than thirty years, does not hesitate when it comes to remembering his confidant with good words. “He was an exceptional human being. He always had a ‘yes’ to do the favor for everything ”says.

Regarding the reason that would have led Daniel Sancho to commit this macabre crime, Zuleta debunks a possible relationship between them. “I never knew him in a homosexual relationship, I never met him in a homosexual attitude with anyone. Whether it was or not was something he has handled very intimately. I have never, in my life, seen Edwin with another man”, he affirms.

Ties to the mafia?

In his statement, Daniel Sancho hinted at a possible link between the victim and the Colombian mafia, hence his fear of possible reprisals from Edwin for not complying with his wishes. However, Zuleta denies it outright. “The world of mafias here is very low, you don’t see it on the street. It’s false that Edwin was connected to the mob. It doesn’t cost me, but 99.99% was not like that, it is not out there. This is this man’s version, ”she expresses. “Edwin’s phone has not been found and what we know are the fantasies of a convicted person for the dismemberment of a human being ”, ditch.
