As a loan player at Eintracht Frankfurt, Ansgar Knauff got his career going. While at BVB he oscillated between the first team and the third division, he has long since established himself at the SBU at a high level. His loan ends in the summer, but how the 21-year-old will continue is still open. The Frankfurters do not have a purchase option, but would like to keep the winger.

In an interview with ‘kicker’, Knauff provides an insight into the current state of affairs. “I’m concentrating fully on the second half of the season – anything is possible with this club! We’ve had an exceptionally good season so far and we want to end it exceptionally well. That doesn’t leave much time to think about other things.”Knauff is reluctant at first, “Of course we will get together sooner or later to discuss how to proceed, but now would not be the right time.”

However, when asked further, the winger is a bit more specific. When choosing his new club, he has a clear focus: “The most important thing is the sporty aspect, which is also shown by the decision to go on loan. I’m at the beginning of my career and it doesn’t do me any good to look at anything other than my sporting development.”

“Can only win”

Does that speak for the SBU? After all, Knauff would probably play more regularly in Frankfurt than in Dortmund. When asked if Eintracht fans could hope to stay, he replied: “Naturally. Eintracht and BVB are both great clubs with fantastic fans and awesome stadiums. I don’t know what’s in the summer yet. But I know one thing: In the next six months I will give everything for Eintracht.”

At BVB, on the other hand, Knauff would meet Edin Terzic, the coach under whom he once made his professional debut. An argument for Dortmund? “Edin is a super coach who has taken me a long way. Even though I was a young player with little professional experience, he set me up in big games.”says Knauff, who also emphasizes: “Likewise, Oliver is a great coach who has developed me extremely within a year. Top coaching teams work in both clubs.”

Knauf balances: “That’s why I’m relaxed: Whatever the outcome, I can only win.” According to ‘Sport1’, concrete talks about his future will be held after the transfer period.
