In 2023 there will be elections in Berlin, Bremen, Bavaria and Hesse. In addition to state elections in Bavaria and Hesse, the House of Representatives is re-elected in Berlin and the Bremen Parliament in Bremen.
Election dates for the Germany elections 2023
- February 12: Re-election to the House of Representatives and the 12 district assemblies in Berlin
- May 14th: Election of the Bremen Parliament
- Fall: State elections in Hesse – the exact date will be announced
- October 8: State elections in Bavaria
1st election in 2023: Berlin election on February 12, 2023
The re-election to the Berlin House of Representatives took place in September 2021. However, the Berlin Constitutional Court declared this invalid due to numerous shortcomings in the implementation. The reason for the repetition were many complaints and objections due to long queues with hours of waiting, too few ballot boxes and missing or incorrect ballot papers.
As a result of the chaotic elections, the Berlin constitutional court decided not to hold a new election, but to repeat the election.

2. Bremen elections on May 14th
In the election in Bremen, the state parliament is re-elected. In addition, the representatives for the citizenship in Bremen and the advisory boards of the city of Bremen are up for election.
In 2024 these local and state elections will take place:
- Spring: Local elections in Baden-Württemberg, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia
- Summer: state elections in Saxony
- Autumn: State elections in Brandenburg, Thuringia
