Some 64 million Turks today they not only elect the 600 deputies of Parliament and the head of state, but they decide whether to give a radical political turn ending two decades in the power of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with society divided into supporters and detractors of the current president.

Surveys predict that erdoğan will lose in this first round of the presidential elections against Kemal Kilicdarogluthe opposition leader backed by a heterogeneous alliance of parties, from social democrats to islamists and nationalistswith ideological divisions but united against the authoritarianism of the president.

The polls give Kilicdaroglu an advantage between three and ten points, but it is not clear if he will achieve an absolute majority that would avoid a second round of elections in two weeks.
