In full objective of ecological transition, will the government in place reach the 100,000 electric charging stations promised on the territory? The state gives itself before the summer of 2023 to reach this symbolic bar and push citizens to switch to electric vehicles.

State sets new date for summer 2023

Emmanuel Macron has never hidden his ambition, that of pushing the French towards electric vehicles. In 2020, the Head of State announced 100,000 electric charging stations by 2021. As explained above, this bar has still not been reached. The government therefore postpones the date in the summer of 2023 and is in a hurry for the French to make the transition with aid such as the ecological bonus.

To push for the adoption of electric cars, the government must necessarily install more electric charging stations. And make them more readily available to users. As explained by Avere France, the reliability and quality of the network must be improved.

In January 2023, 90% of electric charging stations have only a slow recharge under 22 kW of power. Users therefore spend more time than necessary waiting. In terms of availability, the rate is 85%. The government must still improve these points to fully convince the French, beyond reaching the symbolic bar of 100,000 installations.

Where are we in terms of available terminals?

Avere France has identified very precisely 82,107 electric charging stations on December 31, 2022. The 100,000 mark is approaching and according to Clément Molizon, general delegate of Avere France, the efforts of France for a rapid installation are commendable.

The objective of 100,000 charging points (open to the public) initially set by the government at the end of 2022 was above all intended to give new impetus to deployments. In this sense, it is successful: in one year we have gone from 53,667 charging points open to the public to more than 80,000. More than 25,000 charging points have come out of the ground in one year, more than between 2016 and 2020!

See you in the summer of 2023 to find out if the state has reached its goal of 100,000 installations.
