Electricity prices are more than halved on Thursday according to pricing on the Nord Pool electricity exchange. In all electricity areas, the price will be 29 öre per kilowatt hour, which can be compared with 78 öre the day before. On top of the market price of electricity, the consumer also has to pay the electricity company’s surcharge, electricity tax, VAT and grid charge.

For the eighth day in a row, gas prices are also falling in Europe. Unusually high temperatures in a number of countries in December as well as record high output from wind power operations in Germany have a major impact.

As a result, prices on the Dutch gas exchange on Wednesday were recorded at the lowest level since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, after a decline of roughly four percent. It is also 77 percent lower than the peak in August earlier this year. Another contributing factor has been an increasing supply of liquefied fossil gas (LNG), which has meant that several countries have even managed to stockpile gas during a period when demand is normally greater than supply.
