Twitter users voted to oust Musk as chief executive in an unscientific poll Musk himself organized and vowed to abide by, just weeks after taking over the social media giant.
“My role will transition to Executive Chairman and CTO, overseeing product, software and systems operations,” the billionaire tweeted.
The move is likely to allay the doubts of Tesla investors, who are increasingly concerned about the time Musk spends turning Twitter around. Musk also runs the rocket company SpaceX.
The billionaire’s first two weeks as the new owner of Twitter in October they were marked by rapid changes. He immediately fired the company’s previous CEO, Parag Agrawal, and other senior leaders and then half of the staff in November.
Muska self-proclaimed free speech absolutist, has said he took over Twitter to prevent the platform from becoming an echo chamber for hate and division.
He also promised that he would “defeat” spam bots in Twittera key area of his fight with the company’s board of directors over his back-and-forth purchase of the company for $54 billion.
It recently made the tech company part of a partnership called “X”by getting rid of the company name Twitterbut continues to use it for the platform.
