Spectators were not particularly enthusiastic about the film in 2014… On Netflix, however, Noah by Darren Aronofsky, is a great success since it ranks 8th in the top 10 of the most watched films of the moment on the streaming platform. A good place which does not really correspond to the opinions of subscribers since the film only receives 59% positive opinions, a rather poor score… Is it the casting of Noah what explains its sudden success? Because this is perhaps the main positive point of the film which stars Russel Crowe, Jennifer Connelly but also Emma Watson. An argument which had undoubtedly pushed the spectators to go see the film at the start since the latter had made an impressive start with 44 million dollars in revenue in the United States.

Noah : What is it about ?

As its name suggests, the film is based on the Bible: we find Noah, descendant of Seth, who perpetuates the tradition of his ancestors and respects the Earth and its benefits, while the descendants of Cain exploit the planet without shame. Noah, who has become a father, sees in a dream that the Earth is going to be flooded by torrential rains. He then decides to leave with his family, while taking the young Ila under his wing. Taking refuge on Mount Ararat, he undertakes the construction of an ark which will shelter his family and the animals.

Other films inspired by the Bible

Noah is not the first film to be inspired freely by the Bible. There are no less than thirty films dedicated to the subject, starting with The ten Commandments. Directed by Cecil B. DeMille in 1955, it retraces the life of Moses, played by Charlton Heston. Four years later, William Wyler, for his part, returns to the life of the hero of Jerusalem with Ben-How. The success will be there in theaters since the film will accumulate eleven Oscars and four Golden Globes. Criticized for its shocking scenes, The passion of Christdirected by Mel Gibson in 2004, recounts in detail the last days of Christ’s life.
