Within the framework of the conversation “Empowerment of Children in Environmental Issues”the Minister of the Environment pointed out that National Parks and the Ministry of Education They have made an agreement to guarantee the improvement of schools that are installed inside the protected areas.

The announcement was made during the celebration of the “Environmental Education Week” and highlighted that there are more than 500 schools in National Parks. There he also shared with environmental children from different parts of the country, who told him about his work in the region and the impact it has on the territories.

For his part, Muhamad mentioned that: “There they study girls and boys who have valuable knowledge about the countryside, by improving the conditions of the most deteriorated schools, it will help all peasant families and the country to have a better environmental education.”

The meeting was also attended by Lina Marín, an environmentalist from Tolima, who mentioned the importance of citizens supporting this type of environmental initiatives in the country, particularly those that arise in the training spaces for children where the new generations live in order to continue consolidating projects in favor of the environment.

The Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development Working with the Ministry of Education, they have created the Environmental Education Program that seeks to train children, youth, and adults in environmental issues, as well as to strengthen the projects that the entity has been developing.

According to the statement, the initiative in the educational field within schools in protected areas will have the following lines of action as a starting point:

– Living schools working with the children of the populations

– Environmental interaction centers with free access for the communities, as well as cultural laboratories for environmental training.

– Popular education projects on water and life with women from the territories.

– Conversations on traditional knowledge in relation to caring for the environment led by indigenous, Afro, peasant and island communities, at fairs, project exchanges and bioeconomy workshops.

– Tours for the recognition of the biodiversity of the territory, in addition to activities that promote the recovery of trades to strengthen the circular economy.

The program includes art workshops, tours of the Botanical Garden, presentation of documentaries, botany courses, talks to the public, bird watching day, activities for boys and girls, as well as talks for pregnant mothers.

On the other hand, the Botanical Garden of Bogotá announced that in accordance with the Botanical Gardens International Conservation Organization – BGCIis now part as a member of the entity that is dedicated to the development of important knowledge in relation to the conservation and generation of knowledge of the high Andean and páramo flora, as well as other species.
