If you want to escape the camels and confetti rain during the carnival, you will find a break from the hustle and bustle on the coast. Many carnival grouches are expected there this weekend. In one place there is even a separate program for carnival holidaymakers.

In view of the carnival parades taking place again in many places after the Corona pandemic, many carnival grouches are expected on the North Sea coast in the coming days, fleeing from the hustle and bustle.

These vacationers are very welcome on the coast in the otherwise quiet winter time – the coastal town of Norden-Norddeich (Aurich district), for example, offers carnival vacationers every year own program. “Anyone who is terrified of the particularly intense, colorful and loud hustle and bustle between Women’s Carnival and Ash Wednesday has come to the right place,” said Stefan Krieger, Director of Tourism.

Crab shells instead of camels

The coastal town wants to do it “typically East Frisian sober and calm” and offers guests maritime activities until Shrove Monday: Under the motto “Time out from carnival: Great coast instead of old camels!”, walks on the beach and guided tours are offered for holidaymakers and museums are opened. Holidaymakers can also try shrimp pods, for example, and learn about coastal protection over a cup of East Frisian tea.

The East Frisian Islands should also get a bit crowded this weekend because of the carnival holidaymakers: the shipping company Norden-Frisia expects a wave of arrivals on Friday. The ferry company then plans 14 departures to Norderney – that’s four additional departures per direction, as a shipping company spokeswoman said on request. Last year, travel to carnival was back to the level before the corona pandemic. The shipping company expects a similar rush this year.

Respect the environment

In view of the expected holidaymakers on the beaches, the Norddeich seal station appealed to keep a sufficient distance from seals and gray seals. “It is normal for animals to rest on the beach – we are in the living room and bedroom of the seals,” the station wrote on Facebook. Rest and recovery periods are vital for the animals. If possible, avoid the animals at a distance of about 300 meters so as not to disturb them.

For the first time in three years, a street carnival without corona restrictions begins again at Weiberfastnacht. In 2020, the carnival took place just before the first far-reaching lockdown measures were taken, but had also partially contributed to the spread of the virus. In 2021 the carnival was completely canceled. Also under the impression of the Russian attack on Ukraine, carnival celebrations often did not take place last year.
