All those who want to visit Europe from Argentina, or from other countries that do not require a visa, must complete the application for the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS, for its acronym in English).
Said instance, also known as a visa waiver, will come into force in November 2023 and the The process can be carried out entirely through the web, without the need to step on an embassy or consulate. In addition, as they say from the official portal of the system, “More than 95% of ETIAS applications will be approved almost immediately.”
The procedure, which will have a cost approximately 7 euros (not yet fixed with precision), consists of a series of personal information questions and data that will be collated with the databases of security organizations international organizations such as Interpol, Europol and the Schengen Information System, a name given to the common space through which the majority of the inhabitants of the European Union can move freely. It is that the main purpose of the ETIAS, according to official sources, is “to make the Schengen area even more secure.”
In any case, although criminal records may be a reason for rejection of the application, those who have committed minor crimes will still be able to carry out the process.
The ETIAS will be valid for three years.
Once granted the ETIAS, will have a validity of three years to be used, but the length of the estancia provided by it is 90 days. After that period, it is necessary to apply for a visa. The ETIAS will also be revoked if the holder’s passport expires, which is why you will have to start the application again.
From the European Union remember that the ETIAS is not a visa, but rather a travel permit. For this reason, the option is only available to the inhabitants of the more than fifty nations that do not require a visa to go to the European continent. This is an initiative similar to the Electronic System for Travel Authorization, or ESTA, which is already valid in the United States.
The process to obtain the ETIAS will be 100% online.
The times and forms to request it -and obtain approval- will be less than those that correspond to obtain the visa that allows inhabitants of certain countries to enter the Schengen Area. In the case of this system, from the EU the ETIAS will be requested up to 72 hours before the scheduled flight.
The new instance is not yet available, since it will come into force in November 2023, so those who make a trip before said period -or those who are notified in a timely manner by the European authorities- will not need this electronic permit.

Three conditions to require the ETIAS
Not all types of stays in Europe are compatible with this new requirement. Therefore, to meet the ETIAS permit application requirements, travelers must:
- Be citizens of a non-EU visa-exempt country
- Visit Europe for a maximum of 90 days in a 180-day period
- Travel for tourism, business or other purposes admitted by the visa waiver
The new requirements to enter the European Union will work from November.
Travelers who meet these ETIAS requirements can complete the application form. To do this, they will need the following:
- Biometric passport from an eligible country
- Internet connection and an email address
- Debit or credit card to pay ETIAS fees
Step by step to apply for the ETIAS
