The origin of this state company dates back to more than two centuriesin 1763, when the then King Calos III established the so-called “Royal Lottery”, whose profits were used to benefit hospitals, hospices and other public works.

It was then that the name of the Royal Lottery was changed to the National Primitive Lottery, and a few decades later, close to its first century of creation, it was renamed the National Lottery.
