Tymofii Muzychuk, one of the members of the Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra – which, in 2022, won the Eurovision Song Contest – said he believes that “one day” the contest will be held in Ukraine, “immediately after the victory of the war”.

Ukraine, remember, should host the 67th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, after winning last year. However, due to insecurities surrounding the Russian invasion, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced that the festival would be hosted by the United Kingdom, the 2023 runner-up.

“Of course we would like Eurovision to be hosted by Ukraine, but for now it’s impossible”he said, quoted by the British newspaper The Guardian, days before returning to the Eurovision stage.

“At the same time, we are delighted and delighted that the UK has taken on the responsibility of hosting Eurovision on behalf of Ukraine”he added.

Regarding the final of the contest, he expressed satisfaction with the inclusion of “Ukrainian customs and culture” and with the participation of “different Ukrainian singers and artists”, as is the case of the band Go_A, which represented Ukraine in 2020 and 2021 ; Jamala, winner of the festival in 2016; Verka Serduchka and Tina Karol, who represented the country in 2007 and 2006, respectively.

However, he hopes that “one day” Eurovision will return to Ukraine. “We have no doubts that one day Eurovision will be organized in Ukraine, and we hope that this will happen immediately after our victory in this war”he stressed.

Remember that the Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra won the 66th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, on May 14th, in Turin, Italy. The theme ‘Stefania’ collected a total of 631 votes, combined between jury and public votes.

Next Saturday, May 13, the Eurovision final will take place, for which the Portuguese singer Mimicat qualified on Tuesday night.

In addition to Portugal, Croatia, Moldova, Switzerland, Finland, Czech Republic, Israel, Sweden, Serbia and Norway qualified. Outside were Malta, Latvia, Ireland, Azerbaijan and the Netherlands.

On Thursday, May 11, another ten new finalists will be selected, who will be joined on Saturday by Germany, Spain, France, Italy, United Kingdom and Ukraine.
