It was a crucial game that was on the schedule before the last game of the first round. Namely, the score in games was 3-3 between New Jersey and the New York Rangers and anything could happen.

After the first period the score was 0–0, but in the second period Jersey pulled away. Michael McLeod and Tomas Tatar each scored a goal at the end of the second period. In the third period, Finn Erik Haula entered the score sheet and teammate Jesper Bratt punctuated the match with the 4–0 goal in an empty cage.
