Excessive heat warning issued for 29 municipalities

The San Juan National Meteorological Service (SNM) issued an excessive heat advisory for 29 municipalities on Monday until 10:00 a.m.

Heat indices are expected to reach 112 degrees. These are the affected towns:

  • Bayamón, Carolina, Cataño, Guaynabo, San Juan, Toa Alta, Toa Baja, Trujillo Alto, Arecibo, Barceloneta, Dorado, Florida, Manatí, Vega Alta, Vega Baja, Aguadilla, Camuy, Hatillo, Isabela, Quebradillas, Aguada, Añasco, Hormigueros, Mayagüez, Moca, Rincón, San German, Culebra and Vieques.

How to protect yourself from the heat?

  • Limit outdoor activities.
  • Stay hydrated. Drink lots of water.
  • Avoid alcohol consumption.
  • Use sunscreen if you work in the direct sun.
  • Do not leave minors or pets unattended in the car.
  • If you work outdoors, take 15-minute rest periods for every hour in shade.
  • Learn to recognize the symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
