Jarry confides on the set of Meeting in unknown land : I was afraid of going crazy”

Tele-Leisure : Have you been in for a long time Meeting in unknown land ?

Jarry: I’ve always wanted to do this show that allows you to afford an unreal parenthesis. For five years, I spoke about it to Frederic Lopez (show producerEd) as soon as I met him. Before being a comedian, I traveled a lot and I like meeting people.

On site, it was down to -25°C. How did you manage these temperatures?

We took nearly five days to reach our destination, the cold becoming more and more intense as we went. This allowed us to prepare ourselves psychologically and our bodies to get used to it. But it remained complicated.

Jarry (Meeting in unknown land) : “Raphaël de Casabianca… a big snorer!

Apart from the cold, what was the most difficult to manage?

Filming took place at a time when the sun never sets. The absence of night disturbed me. One night I had a panic attack. I was tired, I needed darkness to sleep. I was afraid of going crazy. They calmed me down by giving me a hug. In addition, I slept with Raphaël de Casabianca… a big snorer! (He’s laughing.)

What did you learn from this adventure?

I understood that I needed to hug people and that my life choice was made out of love for others. I am hypersensitive. But I was afraid of not being up to it, of stopping before the end… I didn’t think I had this gray area in me.

Jarry separated from his children to shoot the France 2 show: “The production allowed me to call my twins once

How did you experience the separation from your 6-year-old twins?

Leaving my children, whom I love beyond measure, for three weeks was a test. On the spot, the production allowed me to call them once and a short time because I was very badly. Never again will I leave for so long.

How was your return to France?

My first shower was orgasmic! (He’s laughing.) It also took me a week to regain normal sleep and transit. I was happy to see my family again, but also sad to have left the Inughuits without knowing if I would see them again one day…

You have become friends with Peter, one of the village hunters. Was your goodbye easy?

No, it was very painful… Despite our differences, I had a crush on him. He reminded me of my father. It was he who made me hold on. Our friendship went beyond filming… (He interrupts, moved to tears, Editor’s note) I said goodbye to him away from the cameras to keep this moment personal.
