The Brandenburg Office for the Protection of the Constitution warns of increasing separatist tendencies in the right-wing extremist scene. These debates boiled down to occupying or seceding certain territories in Germany, or even giving up Germany altogether, the Brandenburg Interior Ministry announced on Saturday.

This is all the more remarkable given that right-wing extremists have acted in exactly the opposite way for decades and have always clung to the German state. “This should be authoritarian, without a free democratic basic order and without foreigners,” the statement said.

The new fantasies of separatism are present in different forms, according to a chapter of the current intelligence report published in advance on Saturday. So there are calls to prefer to settle in certain regions of Germany and to shape them ideologically and politically and culturally.

The report refers, among other things, to the fantasy state “Kingdom of Germany”: Under the guise of “ecological villages for the common good”, the self-proclaimed monarch Peter Fitzek is trying to create a “self-sufficient area” independent of the Federal Republic of Germany. According to the report, this organization has been trying to take over a cooperative in Lychen in the Uckermark since May 2022. On the other hand, residents of the small street village of Rutenberg have already joined forces in a citizens’ initiative.

“From the point of view of the Brandenburg Office for the Protection of the Constitution, these developments are explosive for our democracy,” warns the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution. “Because the striving for secession (separation) is an attack on the free-democratic basic order and on the existence of the German state.” (dpa)
