Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is deliberating on the possibility of reinstating former United States President Donald Trump and could issue a decision on the matter at the end of this month, multiple sources with knowledge of the situation inform the ‘Financial Times’

Trump was suspended from Meta platforms for inciting violence shortly after a group of his supporters stormed the Capitol in January 2021. Now, with his return to the public scene after announcing his candidacy for the White House in 2024 , the companies that own the social networks must pronounce on their suspensions of the former president.

Meta had advanced that it would rule on the matter before January 7, 2023, but sources close to the talks estimate that the decision will take place at the end of this month.

What could happen?

The former deputy prime minister of the United Kingdom and now head of global affairs at Meta, Nick Clegg, will be ultimately responsible for the decision, but it is not ruled out that the creator of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, could intervene as executive director, president and majority shareholder.

The company has created a task force to focus on the issue, according to people with knowledge of its operations, which includes staff from the public policy and communications teams, as well as the content policy team led by Monika Bickert and the teams from security and integrity led by Guy Rosen.

Neither Clegg nor Meta have commented on talks taking place after Twitter mogul Elon Musk recently revoked a permanent ban on Trump from his platform after polling users, though the former president has yet to comment. has posted nothing.
