Family tragedy: boy with autism drowns after disappearing at IKEA in Brooklyn

NEW YORK — A family is grieving after a 9-year-old boy with autism drowned hours after he went missing while shopping with loved ones Wednesday night in Brooklyn, New York City Police said. York.

The little boy was with his family inside the IKEA store, located at 1 Beard Street, at about 8:58 pm, when his loved ones noticed that the minor was not with them, police said. It was at that moment that in the midst of the anguish they called the authorities and reported him missing.

Officers began searching the entire store and its surroundings, and the boy was caught on video walking out of the warehouse toward the water, which was behind IKEA, the uniformed woman added.

Given this, the New York City Police divers entered the water shortly after 10:00 p.m., and unfortunately after 12:00 a.m. the little boy was taken out of the water and transported to the hospital. NY Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist where the doctors declared him lifeless.
