As most of you may know, James Gunn took over as one of the new heads of DC along with Peter Safran a little under a year ago, but that didn’t mean all ties to Marvel were cut. The last film Gunn worked on was Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will premiere in just under a month, and to celebrate, Gunn took the opportunity to post a picture of Instagram from the recording. Something that caused some DC fans to boil over with anger and accused him of (among other things) being unfaithful to DC. For example, one particularly upset user had the following to say:
“The worst business that DC could do was to hire someone who advertises the competition… unbelievable, now can you imagine what their movies are going to be like??? I think it’s a disaster”.
Gunn, who normally stays away from social media, actually took the opportunity to respond:
“The last thing DC would want is someone who would spend the last 12 years of his life creating a series of films, and then turn his back on the last movie he created and poured his heart and souls into, as well as his collaborators and the investors. I wasn’t hired at DC without everyone on board being very clear and supportive up front and continuously through this process.”
Upset fans are nothing new, of course, but it was refreshing to see Gunn actually respond here, and he’s absolutely right in what he’s saying, don’t you think?
