NY.- The former prosecutor of Nayarit Edgar Veytia, “El Diablo”, assured this Tuesday that the former Secretary of Security Genaro García Luna together with the former president Felipe Calderón asked the then governor of Nayarit Roberto Sandoval to support the drug trafficker “El Chapo” Guzmán.

According to journalist Peniley Ramírez, Veytia, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the United States after pleading guilty to drug trafficking charges, said at García Luna’s trial that Sandoval worked with the Beltrán Leyva cartel. Veytia asserted that Calderón and García Luna asked Sandoval to follow the “line of ‘El Chapo'”.

The former prosecutor also pointed out that despite this suggestion, Sandoval continued working for the Beltrán Leyva, since he asserted that the cartel was the one that helped him in his campaign since he served as Mayor of Tepic.

He also said that “El Chapo’s” lawyers offered him $10 million to change sides. However, they did not accept the offer.

Veytia indicated that after that decision, an armed command attacked his house, but he escaped unharmed thanks to the support of the Army that was protecting him.

He also said that in a meeting in Mexico City, former Federal Security Director of the Federal Police Luis Cárdenas Palomino assured him that they had chosen the wrong side.
