The perfect game for speedrunning?
We talked a lot about speedrunning last year with the numerous records broken on Elden Ring. But we talk about it regularly, thanks in particular to the various charity events that highlight the discipline, whether AGDQ, SGDQ, Speedons or even Interglitches. And as much to say that there is plenty to do. Computer-assisted or not, 100% or not, exploiting bugs and game structure or not, there are as many speedruns as there are speedrunners. Among the games that allow a lot of madness is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
The Nintendo title features a physics engine and mechanics paving the way for emerging gameplay, godsend for speedrunners. You may know this, but right from the start of the game, it’s possible to go directly to Hyrule Castle, and try to beat Ganon. It’s very difficult, it’s extremely risky, but it’s possible in a completely possible way, and this without “cheating”. It is therefore no surprise that speedrun enthusiasts have exploited this possibility, while totally twisting the physics of the game to set records that seem insane for the vast majority of players.

Among the most successful runners on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, we find Player 5. The latter is known to the community as the white wolf (nothing to do with Geralt de Riv), with many records to his credit. Last May in particular, he had smashed his own world record in the Any% category by finishing the game in just 24 minutes and 15 seconds, before beating him again in early January by setting a time of 23 minutes and 51 seconds. As the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom approaches, which will take place on May 12, he has decided to set himself an even crazier challenge: Complete The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as many times as possible in 24 hours. It sounds crazy, and yet, he succeeded.

With a average time of 25 minutes and 23 seconds per run he managed to complete the game 50 times, without taking a break to sleep. He even managed the feat of realizing one of the runs in 24 minutes and 16 seconds. A crazy performance, after which he could have screamed with joy, or simply collapsed from fatigue. The Gamer reports that he did neither, taking just the time to thank the spectators for being there, and quietly removing his headphones before ending the broadcast.
As a reminder, the sequel to Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom, should take us in the sky of Hyrule, since an event appears to have caused many areas to levitate. However, the title still very mysterious despite the fact that it comes out in less than 4 months. We imagine, however, that a special Nintendo Direct will clarify the main gray areas, but nothing has been announced. Note however that a potential Switch OLED collector leaked not long ago.
