An attentive neighbor prevented a full fire in a family home in Wolfurt on Friday.
On Friday afternoon, an attentive neighbor in Wolfurt noticed smoke developing in the neighboring family home. He informed the homeowner who was present about the fire on the balcony.
Neighbor rushes to help
The homeowner noticed a burning mattress on the balcony and tried to fight the fire with a fire blanket. After attempting to lift the mattress, a chimney effect developed and the fire continued to spread. The fire was only put out by using a fire extinguisher that the neighbor had brought from their home. The quick intervention of the neighbor prevented a full fire in the wooden house.

Cigarette as cause of fire
The alarmed Wolfurt fire brigade checked the fire site for remaining embers using a thermal imaging camera and was able to give the “fire out” as a result. The cause of the fire is assumed to be an incompletely extinguished cigarette or an ember from a cigarette. No one was injured as a result of the fire, and there was considerable material damage to the wooden house.
