Municipalities themselves decide which rules apply to fireworks in their local ordinances. In many places in the country, it is allowed to set off fireworks between certain times on New Year’s Eve, while other municipalities have introduced a total ban. In Kungsör in Västmanland, you have had to for a few years now seek permission from the police to set off fireworks. According to the police in Västra Mälardalen, no one has applied for such a permit this year.
– The purpose when we adopted the new regulations was to protect the pets and above all the dogs. That’s why we tightened up, says Mikael Peterson (S), chairman of the municipal board in Kungsör.
