Good news. In a press conference, the head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced that CDMX will forgive property tax debts from 2017 or previous years. Now it will be automatic.
How is this going to work? Is it necessary to do some kind of procedure? Here we just tell you what you should know.
CDMX will forgive property tax debts
The Secretariat of Economic Development of Mexico City explained that this program will apply to properties that have a maximum cadastral value of up to 2 million 559 thousand pesos and who have property debts of 5 years or more.
Previously, this benefit could be requested directly by citizens and it was a face-to-face procedure before the capital’s Treasury. The difference is that now this benefit will be applied automatically to households that identify themselves.
Then, households that identify with these characteristics will have the benefit applied automatically and property tax debts from 2017 and previous years will be forgiven.
And how do I know if I apply for this benefit? 481 thousand 883 households have been identified that are candidates to receive this benefit, so between April and May they will receive a notification to notify them that they no longer have the property debt of 2017 or previous years.
You can check it in your property account in the Virtual Office of the Cadastre. If you have already received the notification or if it has not arrived, give your account a review right there to be aware.
If you want to take advantage to pay the debts of 2018 or newer, you can go to the Treasury Offices. If you have any questions you can call CONTRIBUTEL (5588 3388).
