Five dead in a tornado in the central US

Washington.- At least five people were killed and dozens more were injured after a tornado touched down on Tuesday in Iowa, in the central United States, according to authorities.

Homes were completely destroyed and trees uprooted by the tornado, which devastated the town of Greenfield, with 2,000 inhabitants.

“Four people have died and at least 35 have been injured as a result of the tornado that touched down in Greenfield and the Adair County area,” Iowa police reported Wednesday, adding that the number of injuries could still increase.

Another person died when their car was swept away by the tornado, local authorities said.

A Greenfield hospital was damaged and patients had to be evacuated to other medical facilities.

According to CNN, in recent weeks the number of tornadoes in the United States has been much higher than normal, with 800 recorded since the beginning of the year.
