A bomb was found in Oberhausen on Thursday, May 4th. Several streets had to be closed for the defusing – of all places at a busy traffic junction in the area of ​​Konrad-Adenauer-Allee and Lindnerstraße. In addition, the A 42 was closed in the area between the Neue Mitte/A 516 and Buschhausen junctions from 6:30 p.m. At 7:39 p.m., the city gave the all-clear: the bomb was successfully defused. The lockdowns have been lifted.

The five-hundredweight bomb was found on Thursday in the Emscher area on Konrad-Adenauer-Allee when investigating “suspicious points”. The city announced that the bomb was to be defused by the Dusseldorf district government’s ordnance disposal service at 7:30 p.m. that same day. But it was even faster. At 7:06 p.m., the city announced on its Facebook page: The preparatory measures have been completed. “Disarming will begin now.”

About 30 people who had to be evacuated live within the danger zone within a radius of 250 meters from the site. All those affected were informed by loudspeaker announcements. The evacuation measures began at 6 p.m.


For people who could not find accommodation, a fire brigade bus was available on the street “Am Kaisergarten” as a care center or place to stay. Bedridden, sick and frail people who were unable to leave their homes on their own had the option of requesting a transport service by dialing 19222.

Residents within a radius of 500 meters from the site were asked not to leave their homes. Around 600 people were affected. For more information, a citizen hotline could be reached on 0208 825-2054.

World War II bomb in Oberhausen: roadblocks from 6.30 p.m

Road closures were set up at the following points or intersections in the inner circle from 6.30 p.m.: Konrad-Adenauer-Allee near Bottroper Straße and the Emscher, Sterkrader Straße 115, Kanalstraße 11 a, footpaths on the Emscher and on the Rhein-Herne Canal, on Grafenbusch in Level with house numbers 11, 52 and 57, Lindnerstraße in the stadium area.

The closures in the outer circle: Sterkrader Strasse 139, Fahnhorststrasse 4, Bottroper Strasse 22, Eschenbruchshof 16, Hoffmannstrasse 28, Scheuerstrasse at the height of the Stoag route, the footpaths on the Rhein-Herne Canal, Gasometer, Kaisergarten, Schloss Oberhausen and Am Grafenbusch, Arenastraße near the tennis club, Am Grafenbusch 10.

The A 42 was also affected, which was closed in the area between the Neue Mitte/A 516 and Buschhausen junctions, as well as the A 516 from the Oberhausen motorway junction in the direction of Oberhausen. The Stoag bus routes 956 and 966 were also diverted from 6.30 p.m.
