Before John Walter was placed in the accommodation, the municipality had tried to find family homes and solutions that could relieve the parents, but failed.
When the municipality of Falu proposed the accommodation Platea in Hagfors, the parents were hesitant and repeatedly expressed concern about the safety of the accommodation, which had been criticized by the Inspectorate for Care and Care, IVO, several times.
The accommodation was closed
Shortly after John Walter’s death, the accommodation was closed.
IVO has previously stated that Falu municipality burst into responsibility in the case of John Walter. In its own Lex Sarah investigation, the municipality has made the assessment that John Walter’s death was not misconduct, or a risk of misconduct in the municipality’s operations.
The parents have now submitted a claim for damages of SEK 972,400 to Falu municipality. If the municipality opposes the demand, the matter will be taken to court, according to a press release from the Center for Justice, whose lawyers are assisting the parents.
