I always try something new in my home office. If, like me, you sit in front of the PC for 8-9 hours every day, you’re always looking for ways to increase comfort. I currently use a model from Flexispot as a desk and sit on the Herman Miller Embody (here is my report). flex spot but also offers office chairs that are also aimed at home office users. I took a look at one of the top models, the BS13, for you.

For this chair you should also go to Flexispot.de / Flexispot.nl Pay 699.99 euros. There is currently a December campaign running that gives you a 10% discount using the code “Xmas10” in the shopping cart. Runs until December 31, 2022. Maybe my report can give you a little hint. The discount mentioned does not only apply to the Flexispot BS13, but also to other models.

Features and workmanship of the Flexispot BS13

If you unpack the BS13, you can expect a fairly easy assembly, for which no additional tools are required. So you have three large parts in front of you here: backrest, seat and stand cross. In addition, there are the two armrests, the gas pressure spring, the castors, a metal insert that fixes the armrests at the bottom and a matching Allen key. Of course, the necessary screws, plus a spare screw for each of the two different sizes, are also included.

I would say that even if you have two left hands like me, you can complete the assembly in 15 minutes. The individual components are very valuable. The stand cross is made of aluminium, the lower part of the armrests is made of steel and parts of the lower part of the seat are also made of metal. The part of the backrest that is screwed to the seat is also made of steel. Flexispot not only relies on robust materials, but everything is drilled cleanly and meshes perfectly. So there is no risk that you will install something incorrectly and get annoyed later.

There are also many adjustment options, which are also explained in the instructions. You can adjust the height of the armrests, move the seat forwards or backwards, adjust the height of the chair, move the lumbar support, influence the angle of the backrest and adjust the tension of the backrest.

You can easily adjust the lumbar support up and down by hand. The other controls are located under the seat in the form of switches. All of them are easy to reach, even if you have to remember the positioning at the beginning. But you have to get used to every office chair and, above all, experiment at the beginning in order to achieve the optimal setting for you personally.

Flexispot BS13 in practical test

First of all: Unfortunately, I could not use the Flexispot BS13 permanently. And that shows that sometimes one aspect of an otherwise good product is enough to shoot it out: Although I have rather narrow shoulders for a man, the armrests are too close to the seat for me. In practice, this means that my shoulders are almost always “squashed” when I use the rests. I usually sit in such a way that my height-adjustable desk and the armrests of my chair are at the same height. I can support my arms perfectly and don’t have to bend my hands up or down.

With the Embody I usually use, many gaming chairs or other Flexispot models, you can pull the armrests further outwards. That’s just not possible with the BS13. So for people with a broad back/broad shoulders I see problems because of the position. The height adjustment, which takes place in stages, doesn’t help if the distance to the seat doesn’t fit – too bad!

For me, this is an omission that I very much regret, because otherwise I think the Flexispot BS13 is very valuable. The polyamide of the backrest is pleasant to the touch and looks hard-wearing and robust. The seat, on the other hand, is pleasantly flexible and comfortable, but not too soft so that you would sink into it. So it’s really comfortable to sit there. With the backrest firmly adjusted and lumbar support, I was able to achieve a seat that reminded me little of the stable, straight seat on the Embody.

If it weren’t for the problem with the armrests. If I consequently sit on the Flexispot BS13 for a working day, my shoulders are completely tense in the evening. I know the feeling because I accidentally adjusted the armrests on the Embody incorrectly after moving and before I noticed it in the heat of the moment, my shoulders also cramped badly. Unfortunately, the Flexispot BS13 would be out of my recommendation list if you are not built very narrow. Because: Even if I wouldn’t want to use the office chair permanently because of the problem with the armrests that was mentioned, things are different with my girlfriend. In contrast to my 190 cm, it is not only smaller at 160 cm, but also narrower. She had no problems with her shoulders while trying out and working in the chair.

Conclusion

The Flexispot B13S would be worth recommending without its Achilles heel, the armrests positioned far too close to the seat for me. It’s a pity that these cannot be pushed forwards or backwards or adjusted in distance to the seat. So I have to conclude that the office chair is primarily suitable for people with very narrow builds.

Otherwise, the chair is of high quality – a lot of steel and aluminum is used for the frame and the fabric of the seat and backrest also makes a robust impression. The remaining adjustment options for the lumbar support, the sliding seat, tension and inclination of the backrest and the height of the chair and armrests also increase ergonomics.

So at the end of the day, whether or not you should consider the Flexispot B13S depends on your build.
