As part of the fight against smuggling, the gendarmerie services of the wilaya of Tebessa were able to arrest 09 individuals who were about to smuggle a large quantity of foodstuffs.

Thus, according to the press release from the national gendarmerie, these 09 individuals hid this quantity in different compartments of a transport vehicle. Two of these individuals arrested are of Algerian nationality. As for the others, they are of other nationalities.

The gendarmerie services seized, on occasion, 7 passports in addition to the quantity of foodstuffs.

Among other things, a quantity of around 1,500 liters of cooking oil was seized in addition to 1,400 boxes of various sizes containing locally produced chocolate bars.

Fight against smuggling and speculation: remarkable progress in 2022

Faced with shortages of widely consumed food products, the State struck hard in order to put an end to certain practices.

Indeed, the year 2022 has been marked by multiple measures taken and other decisions to fight against smuggling and speculation.

Smuggling, speculation and excessive storage, these are the practices that the Algerian Association for Protection and Orientation, APOCE, reports each time there is a shortage of foodstuffs.

The collaboration between the Algerian justice system and the various police, gendarmerie and customs services seems to be bearing its first fruits in this fight for the preservation of national production and the purchasing power of ordinary citizens.
