Vaccines, according to the folder, must be purchased at authorized resellers and kept between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius (°C) from acquisition to the moment of use – including transport and application, already on the farm.
New needles must be used to apply the dose of 2 milliliters (ml) on the neck of each animal, preferring the coolest hours of the day to properly contain the animals and apply the vaccine.
According to the ministry, in addition to vaccinating the herd, producers must also declare it to their state’s animal health protection agency. The vaccination declaration must be made within the deadlines stipulated by the state veterinary service.
In case of doubt, the guideline is for the producer to look for the executing organ of animal sanitary defense of his state.
Suspension
Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Tocantins and the Federal District – belonging to Block 4 of the 2017-2026 Strategic Plan of the National Program for the Eradication of Foot-and-Mouth Disease – will no longer vaccinate their animals at this stage, as per ordinance published in April.
The action, according to the ministry, is part of the evolution of the project to expand FMD-free zones without vaccination in the country.
“The seven federative units, which will no longer need to vaccinate their cattle and buffalo herds against foot-and-mouth disease, add up to approximately 113 million head, representing about 48% of the total herd in the country.”
